Service
Kappa Sigma is a strong participant in community service and philanthropy projects
for the Stillwater community and charitable organizations. Every year our chapter
hosts a Christmas dinner and party for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization
of Stillwater, providing food, refreshments and presents for the children and
their mentors. Kappa Sigma also participates in the campus sponsored community
service projects "The Big Event" and "Into the Streets" in the Spring and Fall,
respectively. About 25 Kappa Sigma undergraduates form a team for each of these
events and go out into the Stillwater community for the weekend to do such things
as improve living conditions in an impoverished neighborhood or repair work at a
local museum. It is the students way of giving back to the community that supports
the university.
Kappa Sigma also takes part in the "Adopt-A-Highway" program with the Oklahoma
Department of Transportation by regularly cleaning a stretch of Highway 51 east of
Stillwater. If you are ever on this stretch of road and see the sign that marks our
area, please take note of whether it is clear of litter and general rubbish. If it
looks to be clean, great. But if you feel it could use some work, please contact
us immediately and we will organize a group of guys to go out and spruce it up.
In addition to our other service activities, Kappa Sigma is proud to host an event
called Krazy DayS every year
to raise money for charity. In recent years, Krazy DayS
has raised upwards of $4000 through a series of week-long activites that involve
hundreds of Oklahoma State undergraduates. To learn more about Krazy
DayS, visit the
Krazy DayS page.
