Social ActivitiesPledges are immediately given the opportunity to meet people on campus as they take the pledges from all eleven sororities on informal "coke dates" throughout the semester. About fifteen men in each pledge class also take part in Freshman Follies, a choreographed variety show, practicing with the same number of girls from a paired sorority for about eight weeks before ultimately performing for the whole campus for three days in November. A larger number of members from the whole house participate in in a similar show called Spring Sing that focuses more on vocals and is held at Lewis Field on Mom's Day each Spring. Every semester Kappa Sigma participates in "dinner exchanges" with sororities in which each house hosts about half of the members from the other house for dinner. We also have a couple social functions each semester at a rented venue in conjunction with one or two fraternities and an equal number of sororities. Often with live bands performing and a theme to each, these functions prove to be a successful way of getting the Greek houses acquainted with one another in a spirited atmosphere. Kappa Sigma also hosts a number of "date parties" throughout the semester in which members treat their dates to dinner before going to the party at a rented facility. The largest such party in the Fall is the annual "Dancing with the Dead" Halloween costume party. In the Spring of each year, Kappa Sigma hosts a weekend-long formal party outside of Stillwater. This coat-and-tie affair has taken place in recent years in such places as Hot Springs, Arkansas and at the South Fork Ranch in Dallas. |
